NFHS Rules

  1. A SK by K12 is partially blocked in the NZ by R56. The SK goes beyond the NZ where R80 is trying to gain possession but muffs the ball back behind the NZ. K34 picks up the ball behind the NZ and advances for a TD.

  2. R87 & R80 are back to catch a punt. R80 catches a punt and starts to advance. After R80 starts to advance, R87 gives a fair catch signal. The K players stop playing around him. The BJ throws a flag for an illegal fair catch signal.

  3. R81 and R83 are back to receive a punt. The kick is high. R81 gives a proper fair catch signal, yet R83 catches the ball and is immediately hit by K25. The BJ throws a flag for KCI on K25.

  4. On a FK, the kicked ball is touched by R10 @ R’s 15 YL. The ball rolls into R’s EZ. The Crew places the ball at R’s 15 YL and signals 1st down for the RT at the spot where the ball was touched by R10.

  5. 4/G @ B’s 2YL. At the snap B56 (linebacker) pushes B75 from the back and through the goal line offense where B75 tackles A32 at B’s 3 YL. The U flags B56 for illegal use of the hands.

  6. Catch-No Catch. In a recent sub-varsity game, a receiver possessed a forward pass and turned up field. Then was hit and fumbled. The R stated, “he needs to take 2 steps before it is a catch”. They signaled it as incomplete.

  7. 4/10 @ K’s 7YL. K is in punt formation. The ball is snapped high over punter K10’s head and it goes across the EL. The R signals a TB and signals K’s ball on their own 20 YL.

OHSAA Mechanics

  1. OPEN THE DOOR . When you read a runner is coming to your side wings need to “slide” back into the backfield and allow the play to develop in front of us. Then trust our wing partner that they have come in at a 45-degree angle and have our forward progress spot.

  2. Don’t open the door. In 3rd and 4th down mechanics where the LTG is 5 yards or less we do not open the door. We get to the LTG at the snap and are there before the ball arrives. If needed, we back up toward the team box area.

OHSAA Regulations

  1. Numbering exception in sub-varsity. Remember, in sub-varsity games the normal number rules do not apply.
