NFHS Rules

  1. A, 2/10 @ B’s 40YL. A10 throws a screen pass that is tipped behind the NZ by B65. A57 is at B’s 36YL when the pass is tipped. The tipped pass goes forward and is caught by A80 @ B’s 34YL. A flag is thrown for a lineman illegally downfield.

  2. A, 1/10 @ A’s 20 YL. QB A12 is under heavy pressure. He throws the ball forward and it hits A64 in his back at A’s 20 YL. A flag is thrown for illegal touching.

  3. A80 is running deep for a “hail Mary” type pass. B23 is between A80 and the pass and starts to wave his arms and hands in the face of A80 but makes no contact. A flag is thrown for defensive pass interference- face guarding.

  4. A, 3/10 # B’s 45 YL. QB A14 is in shotgun formation and puts A80 in motion. A80 runs right behind the down linemen. The ball is snapped and QB A14 catches the snap and then tosses the ball underhanded forward, to A80 while he is in motion. A80 muffs the ball. The R throws his beanbag. B61 falls on the ball, and The R signals a COP and 1/10 for B.

  5. READ THIS ONE CLOSELY - THIS IS MISSED FREQENTLY . A, 4/3 @ B’s 18 YL. A linemen come to the LOS, and all get into a 2 point stance. As QB A10 calls his cadence all A lineman shift down quickly and abruptly. Three B lineman encroach. The wings signal encroachment on B.

  6. On a Try, all K linemen have their legs interlocked prior to the snap. The ball is snapped and the lineman lean down forming a wall. No flag is thrown.

  7. During a run, B81 is blocked to the ground. As he is lying on the ground, he swings his leg and trips A32 (runner) as he passes causing him to fall to the ground. No foul is called.

OHSAA Mechanics

  1. T HIS HAPPENS FREQUENTLY. JV game. On 3rd down & 16 YDs to go the U drops back 15 yards prior to the snap to help with downfield pass plays.

  2. After a COP the covering official should signal TO first then new direction.

OHSAA Regulations

  1. Before a middle school game, the coaches tell the officials they want to play 6 minute quarters. The officials tell the coaches it must be 8 minute quarters.
